Designed from original Reading Railroad blueprints, this 2-track ash pit was found in engine service facilities. Ashes are shoveled/raked into the center area where they can be removed by conveyor or a crane with a clamshell bucket. The original design had 2 ash pits with a track centered between them and an overhead crane that moved the cinders to hoppers or gondolas in the center track.
This is a "speed kit" that consists of the walls and abutments as a single part, the floor with 108 rail posts already secured and aligned. The floor is a "concrete white" while the posts are gray.
