This kit represents a typical steam-era water tank used in areas where freezing conditions could occur. The pipes feeding the tank are enclosed and the valve is built into the tank through a roof mechanism. The tank scales 20-feet in diameter, 16-feet tall to the base of the roof, and stands about 46.5 feet tall to the tip of the pinnacle. With 17 plastic parts, some thread, wire, and weights, this kit can be easily assembled, detailed, and deployed quickly on your railroad.
All parts are produced with fine details and movable parts. The roof valve lever can be positioned and the actuator bar can even be connected to a weight or fine spring to allow realistic operation. Likewise, the spout can pivit up and down and retain it's position with counterbalance weights.
This kit is available in two versions:
- All white parts with pre-colored tank and pipe enclosure. Tank has black bands. This requires painting of most parts but allows the tank and bands to be used with just some weathering, eliminating the need to paint the thin bands. This version is shown in the first 2 photos with an aged wood tan tank.
- Pre-colored parts allows the tank to be assembled, weathered, and installed with minimal to no painting. The base is dirt tan, concrete tan, black, and dark wood brown, the metal parts are black, wood parts brown, and roof is dark gray. The tank and pipe enclosure are produced in the color selected, with black bands on the tank body. See the 3D Preview for coloring of the base.
There are two tank styles that can be selected - a straight-sided or taper-sided tank. Taper-sided tanks were a bit stronger but had slightly less capacity for a given diameter.
The kit includes assembly instructions as well as ideas for painting and detailing. A sample of Clean Dirt is included to cover the base and blend into the surrounding scenery.
